Office 2003 - How to enable a Digitally Signed workbook?

Almost all Excel Workbooks developed by XLAutomation will contain Macros. If that Workbook is Digitally Signed you will see the following dialog box.

If you tick the option to Always Trust this Publisher and then select Enable...you will never be presented with the Enable Macros dialog box again for an XLAutomation Workbook that has been digitally signed. If you select Disable then the application will not operate as designed.

If your security settings are on High or Very High and the workbook is not Digitally Signed you will see the following dialog box.

It provides a detailed description of the various settings for Macro security. In this case your Macro security needs to be adjusted to Medium which will allow you to choose whether you want to run Macros within a workbook or not.

To adjust your Macro security in 2003, you need to access Tools -> Macro -> Security. Then in the dialog box presented you need to select Medium from the available options. This will allow workbooks developed by XLAutomation to operate as designed. When you have changed the setting then exit Excel and attempt to open the workbook application again.

Office 2007 - How do I enable Macros and Security in Office 2007?

With Office 2007 Microsoft significantly changed the way in which Macro security works within all applications. The following article has been sourced from the Microsoft website and provides a guide for users on Office 2007 in dealing with Macro security.

Guide to enabling or disabling Macro security in Office 2007

XLAutomation applications are almost always digitally signed and the following setting is the recommended option for your Office 2007 Trust Centre....

Disable all macros except digitally signed macros
This setting is the same as the Disable all macros with notification option, except that if the macro is digitally signed by a trusted publisher, the macro can run if you have already trusted the publisher. If you have not trusted the publisher, you are notified. That way, you can choose to enable those signed macros or trust the publisher. All unsigned macros are disabled without notification.

Office 2007 - Compatibility Checker do I need it?

When saving a workbook in Office 2007 that has been developed by XLAutomation you may be presented with the following dialog box.

Compatibility Checker

All XLAutomation applications have been developed to operate in Office 2003 and 2007, and as a result the Compatibility Checker is not required.

Simply uncheck the check box - "Check compatibility when saving this workbook" and then select Continue. The Compatibility Checker will no longer appear for this application

Error when installing Lead Converter Distribution - DeleteFile failed; code 32

When attempting to install the Lead Converter Distribution component the following error dialog box is reported.

Redemption Install Failure

To resolve this installation problem. Ensure that all Microsoft Office applications are not running include Outlook and then retry the installation. If that still fails then restart the machine and perform the installation before any applications are started.

A certificate (signing or issuer) has expired

Most of the Excel applications and workbooks developed by XLAutomation contain a "Code Signing" digital certificate. The digital certificate is used to ensure that standard Macro Security tests that Excel enforces on the opening of a workbook are satisfied.

If you see the following Security Warning dialog box it means that the digital certificate supplied with your workbook has expired and can no longer be used on opening the workbook to satisfy the Excel Macro Security test.

Excel Security Warning Expired Certificate

The solution to this problem is to request an upgraded digital certificate from XLAutomation. Please use the Contact Us form on our website to advise us of your problem. Ensure that you identify the application that you are using and also the version.

To bypass this check and continue to use all the workbook functionality you can also select "Enable Macros" above and the workbook will open with functionality enabled. Note you will continue to see this dialog box each time you open this application until a new certificate provided by XLAutomation.

For 2007 users the Security Warning dialog should look like this.

Excel security warning expired certificate 2007

In this case the options are the same as described for 2003. The solution to this problem is to request an upgraded digital certificate from XLAutomation. Please use the Contact Us form on our website to advise us of your problem. Ensure that you identify the application that you are using and also the version.

To bypass this check and continue to use all the workbook functionality you can also select "Enable this content" above and the workbook will open with functionality enabled. Note you will continue to see this dialog box each time you open this application until a new certificate provided by XLAutomation.

Install ZIP file will not open on my Desktop

As part of the download process for all XLAutomation applications a ZIP file is provided containing the installation setup file and documentation files. A typical ZIP file would contain

to-do-list-list-of-files

Some users have reported problems in opening the ZIP files provided. This problem occurs when the workstation on which the ZIP file is being opened does not have software compatible with files of type ZIP. If this occurs on your workstation then it can be resolved via the following options

Free Downloads of either WinZip or WinRAR are available and once installed on your computer will enable you to open and read ZIP files

For workstations running Windows 7 or later you should be able to right click on the supplied ZIP file and open it via Windows Explorer

Once you have the file open, the installation process is as simple as Double Clicking on the Setup application.
